Is this qualification for me?
The aim of the Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Steel fixing Occupations qualification is to recognise the knowledge, skills and competence of individuals who specialise in steel fixing in the construction industry.
Successful learners who also complete the CITB Operatives Health, Safety and Environment knowledge test can apply for the CSCS Skilled Worker’s card (Blue Card).
What does the qualification cover?
Topics include three mandatory units:
- Conforming to general health, safety and welfare in the workplace
- Conforming to productive working practices in the workplace
- Moving, handling and storing resources in the workplace
In addition to three optional units (two must be completed):
- Cutting and bending reinforcement steel to shape in the workplace
- Fixing steel in situ in the workplace
- Prefabricating reinforcement steel sections in the workplace
How long will it take me?
The qualification is evidenced based and is designed to be completed mainly in the workplace. Therefore, the length of the qualification is flexible for each learner and can be taken over either a condensed period or a longer duration. This is generally between 3 and 18 months.

How will I be assessed?
This is an evidenced based qualification. Learners must provide evidence to prove that they have met all the learning outcomes.
Are there any entry requirements?
It is expected that learners have a minimum understanding of Level 1 in Literacy.
If you require any assistance or qualifications in Literacy, our team are happy to help.
Learners are also expected to be employed prior to enrolling as the qualification is assessed by work based evidence.
