Level 2 Award in the Prevention and Control of Infection for the Workplace

Is this qualification for me?

The Level 2 Award in the Prevention and Control of Infection for the Workplace qualification is designed to support roles within the workplace and is aimed at anyone working in any industry needing to develop their understanding and knowledge of how to prevent and control the spread of infection in their workplace.

The content of this qualification includes common infections, correct hand washing procedures, principles of personal protective equipment, waste management procedures and roles and responsibilities in preventing infection.

All learners undertaking this qualification will receive an additional Covid-19 module.

What does the qualification cover?

Topics include:

  • Understand common infections
  • Understand the importance of correct hand washing procedures for infection prevention and control
  • Understand the principles of personal protective equipment (PPE) used in infection prevention and control  
  • Understand waste management procedures and the associated risks
  • Understand the roles and responsibilities in preventing infection

The Covid-19 module consists of:

  • The differences between a virus and bacteria 
  • How our bodies respond to viruses 
  • What COVID-19 is 
  • How the virus spreads 
  • The symptoms of COVID-19 
  • How we can protect ourselves 
  • Where to stay informed

How long will it take me?

The qualification is designed to take half a day to complete, when delivered face to face. You are also able to undertake this qualification online.

If you possess a computer/laptop (with Google Chrome installed) and another device with a camera (smart phone/tablet), you will be able to take the assessment at home.

How will I be assessed?

You are assessed by a 15 question multiple choice examination. Successful learners will need to achieve at least 67% (10 out of 15).

Are there any entry requirements?

It is expected that learners have a minimum understanding of Level 1 in Literacy.
