Level 2 Award for Personal Licence Holders

Is this qualification for me?

The Level 2 Award for Personal Licence Holders is for individuals that are currently or wish to work in any environment that involves the sale of alcohol.

Any business licensed to sell alcohol, including small pubs, retailers, large night clubs, cafes, restaurants, hotels and sports facilities, is required by law to have at least one personal licence holder.

To become a personal licence holder, an individual requires the Level 2 Award for Personal Licence Holders qualification.

A personal licence is also required to become a designated premises supervisor (DPS). Licensed premises can have several personal licence holders.

What does the qualification cover?

Topics include:

  • Understanding the application process for a personal licence
  • Your legal duties as a personal licence holder
  • The roles, responsibilities and functions of licensing authorities
  • The licensing objectives and why they’re so important
  • How the nature and strength of alcohol can affect your customers
  • The law relating to protecting children on a licensed premise
  • The powers held by the police and other authorities

How long will it take me?

The qualification is designed to take one full day to complete, when delivered face to face. You are also able to undertake this qualification online.

During the current Covid-19 pandemic this course is only available for online study. If you possess a computer/laptop (with Google Chrome installed) and another device with a camera (smart phone/tablet), you will be able to take the assessment at home.

How will I be assessed?

You are assessed by a 40 question multiple choice examination. Successful learners will need to achieve at least 70% (28 out of 40).

Are there any entry requirements?

It is expected that learners have a minimum understanding of Level 1 in Literacy and Numeracy.

Although students can successfully complete this qualification form the age of 16, an individual must be 18 to apply for a personal licence.

How much will it cost me?

The cost of the qualification is £100.

Upon successful completion of the qualification we can apply for the personal licence on your behalf. The cost is dependent on the council you are applying to and can be discussed on an individual basis.
