Level 1 Award in the Principles of Fire Safety
Is this qualification for me?
The objective of the Level 1 Award in the Principles of Fire Safety qualification is to support learners in any workplace, particularly new starters, where a basic understanding of fire safety is required.
Learners gaining this qualification will know that fire safety is the responsibility of everyone in the workplace. They will recognise the common causes of fire and identify actions to take in the event of a fire.
What does the qualification cover?
Topics include:
- The components of the fire triangle
- The main causes of fire in the workplace
- Reducing the likelihood of a fire
- The actions to take upon hearing the fire alarm
- Types of fire-fighting equipment and their uses
How long will it take me?
The qualification is designed to last half a day, when delivered face to face. You are also able to undertake this qualification online.
During the current Covid-19 pandemic this course is only available for online study. If you possess a computer/laptop (with Google Chrome installed) and another device with a camera (smart phone/tablet), you will be able to take the assessment at home.

How will I be assessed?
You are assessed by a 15 question multiple choice examination. Successful learners will need to achieve at least 60% (9 out of 15).
Are there any entry requirements?
It is expected that learners have an understanding of at least Level 1 in Literacy.
