Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Manufacturing (Refresher)

Is this qualification for me?

The Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Manufacturing (Refresher) qualification is suitable for those working in a manufacturing environment who have previously achieved a regulated food safety qualification.

Learners gaining this qualification will know that food safety is the responsibility of everyone involved in the storage, preparation, cooking service and handling of food. Its topics are regarded by the Foods Standards Agency as being important to maintaining good practice in the production of safe food.

By law, food business operators must ensure that food handlers receive the appropriate supervision and training in food hygiene. The training of food handlers is the key to profitability and high standards of food safety is to ensure their competency. This qualification demonstrates continued professional development (CPD) in the workplace.

What does the qualification cover?

Topics include:

  • The importance of food safety procedures and complying with the law
  • Microbiological, chemical, physical and allergenic hazards and their control
  • Good temperature control and stock rotation
  • The importance of good personal hygiene and preventing contamination, including handwashing, protective clothing, cuts and reporting illness
  • Keeping work areas and equipment clean and safe
  • Safe waste disposal
  • Pest control

 

How long will it take me?

The qualification is designed to take half a day to complete, when delivered face to face. You are also able to undertake this qualification online.

To take this qualification at home learners must ensure that they have a computer/laptop (with Google Chrome installed) and another device with a camera (smart phone/tablet) to record the assessment.

How will I be assessed?

You are assessed by a 20 question multiple choice examination. Successful learners will need to achieve at least 60% (12 out of 20).

Are there any entry requirements?

It is expected that learners have a minimum understanding of Level 1 in Literacy and Numeracy.
